The FBI has identified a WA man as the leader of an underground internet piracy ring. Sean O’Toole, 26, of Perth was the “RISCISO” group’s head hauncho, pirating $9 million worth of software, games and movies.

As many as 60 others were involved in the group—many of whom live in the US and work in the information technology field. By cracking the expiration and encryption codes built into free trial software available in the internet, it is believed RISCISO stole enough content to fill 23,000 CDs.

RISCISO—Rise in Superior Couriering, plus the file format ISO—never tried to profit from the stolen content. Instead, they acted on the “thrill” of cracking codes.

American authorities are seeking O’Toole’s extradition after announcing 15-count indictments charging conspiracy to commit copyright infringement among other charges. So far no charges have been laid.
